PRESIDENTS REPORT - DECEMBER 2023
As 2023 draws to a close, there has been much water under the bridge. The borders are open and our customers from far and near have returned, as they love adventures in New Brunswick and they love you the Outfitters who many of them call family. The Outfitting Industry in New Brunswick bolsters the coffers of the province with excess of 50 million dollars per year as per the last economy study. You as Outfitters, employee hundreds of persons in rural NB. Hats off to all Outfitters for making this significant contribution to the economy to the province and in doing so, puts real coffers in our own pockets. Small business is what drives the New Brunswick economy.
We have had many successes in the past such as gaining the opportunity to supply our bear hunters with the ability to hunt a second bear in their visit to us. This is indeed a benefit to us and puts much needed profit in our accounts. Through our hard work with meetings with the government, Outfitters have been given an allocation for non-resident moose license which is administered in a draw. Through our hard work and leadership, this number has gone from 50 licenses to 75 and currently its at 95, thanks to Minister Holland. I'm sure you are aware that the Minister put a moratorium on moose license for the 2024 draw while the department developed new criteria of eligibility. This criteria has not been released yet, everyone is anxious to hear what it will be.
There has been advancements in the world of hunting turkeys, with residents having an allocation assigned which is distributed through a draw. We look forward to when the population is healthy enough to support tags which can be drawn for by our hunters. This will be a true opportunity for those of us where these birds live and could coincide nicely with our bear hunts.
In the fishing world, NBPOGA holds a seat on the recreational fisheries advisory board with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. It is good to be at this table and be recognized as the voice of outfitting and asked to be consulted regarding regulations. As you know, many Outfitters in the salmon world are asking that their watersheds be managed so that all native species are in equilibrium in order that all fisheries are viable.
As you all know, the workings of government both federally and provincially is hard slugging. It takes a lot of time for governments to pass legislation. You can be assured that the Board of Directors of NBPOGA welcomes opportunities to step into the batters box with government and work towards hitting a grand slam for you our members, as well as the industry as a hole.
NBPOGA is devoted and continues to advocate for our members and our industry. You can be assured that your Board of Directors goes the extra mile for you. As such, you our members know that benefits have been struck to award you for being members. NBPOGA members have always enjoyed lower liability insurance rates with HUB insurance and you will continue to do so through our loyalty program with HUB, our members will be offered the best rates in NB, all because of the loyalty of you our members to this program. In addition, NBPOGA has made advancements with acquiring preferred rates with Broker Link as outlined in our past newsletter. This company is throughout the province and offers savings in camp, house and vehicle insurance to both Outfitters, guides and support staff. Please reach out and contact for a free quote, 855-548-8994.
Looking for financing? NBPOGA has secured a mortgage broker for your convenience: Mathieu McCaie at the mortgage group, mathieu@mortgagegroup.com
In addition, all 4 locations of Pro-Nature is offering our card caring members a 15% discount on your purchases, with the exception of guns.
In closing, as you can see NBPOGA has been busy working with governments and securing cost saving measures to you, our members.
Myself, as well as the Board of Directors wish you a very Merry Christmas and Joyeux Noel as well as a very Happy New Year and Bon Annee.
Debbie Norton President NBPOGA
2023 PRESIDENTS REPORT
Once again a year has quickly passed and once again it has been a busy year for the Liaison Committee with many great accomplishments to be announced at our AGM. It has been a great pleasure in attending meetings with JP and Debbie as they have worked very hard on your behalf and though there is still some Resolutions on the Ministers desk we assure you they are still ongoing and will be addressed.
There will be some exciting news to be announced at the AGM and elections to be held for President and Secretary and Directors from the East and West and the formation of committees at the BOD'S Meeting following the AGM. As times are quickly changing I am proud to say NBPOGA will be changing in some ways to better NBPOGA and the Industry going forward.
As I mentioned the elections happening at the AGM it is important for all members to remember that if offering for a position on the Executive or BOD'S you need to be present and be nominated but don't require a seconder. As this is going to be a very busy next 2 years that you put a lot of thought in offering for a position as a lot of work will be required from Executive and BOD'S and Committees. I wish all those offering great success and know you will work hard in promoting NBPOGA and the Hunting and Fishing Industry. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the AGM.

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE TO MEMBERSHIP 2022
As the spring bear season has now came to an end it was once again evident that the pandemic is still creating some havoc among Outfitters and Guides in New Brunswick. It is reported that most lodges had cancellations from clients due to the vaccine rules to come to New Brunswick to hunt resulting in loss of revenue to the Lodges and provincial government with some loss of revenue for the Wild Life Trust Fund. On a good note it is being reported from around the province of record size bears and success rates were very high. CONGRATULATIONS to all members that are surviving and hopefully some will see an increase in attendance at their Lodges from residents to enjoy what you have to offer from retreats, tubing, fishing, lodging, sight seeing and the many other great things you and New Brunswick has to offer.
NBPOGA has as always been working on your behalf and hopefully their hard work will result in some great announcements in the near future. We are currently awaiting a meeting with DNRED to hopefully put some INK to some proposals sitting on their table .So bear with us for news to come.
As President of NBPOGA for many years now and looking back at to the accomplishments NBPOGA has achieved over the years is fantastic. The Pandemic surely hurt our businesses badly and makes it hard for some to survive. I for one is one of them and as age and health are creeping up I have decided I will be selling my Lodge and return back to being a Guide as I surely do enjoy working in the outdoors and working to assist others where possibly. So effective in March at our AGM I will be stepping down as President of NBPOGA . I have greatly enjoyed this role and it does come with a lot of hard work and dedication to the Industry and I surely feel proud of the support shown to me by our great BOD’S. I can look back with pride as to some of the accomplishments that transpired over the years and choose to mention a few of importance.
(1) NBPOGA truly speak for the entire Hunting and Fishing Industry and strive to update members and non-members on important issues. Thanks to your great hard working Liaison Committee of JP and Debbie on their dedication and hard work in serving everyone. I will miss this part greatly so thanks for your friendship and dedication.
(2) NBPOGA has developed a great relationship with DNERD and Tourism and THIS needs to be pushed going forward as a lot has transpired in the past 6 years in strengthening our relationship in delivering our issues and clearly being listened to so once again thanks Jp and Debbie.
(3) Finally designing a fair distribution of non-resident moose tags to qualifying Lodges and guides.
(4) NBPOGA is very proud to be the only Association that works for the Industry in assuring that Guides and anyone that is associated with Hunting and Fishing in the province has a voice. CONGRATULATIONS and never forget this in the future and keep up the great work.
(5) There is so much that has transpired over the years and much more to come so stay tuned and assist where possible in improving the Hunting and Fishing Industry.
(6) As we all worked as volunteers for many years it shows the dedication they share on working for you.
(7) Finally we are able to start paying mileage to our BOD’S to ease some of the burdens of attending meetings on your behalf.
(8) Our membership is a great huge number now truly making us the Industry leaders. This has greatly increased the past few years and hopefully more will sign on in the future and NBPOGA will keep pushing for their support.
As a closure I sincerely wish the new President the very best and assure the person that I will be available to assist and guide them through the transition process. Hopefully the incoming President never forgets the grass roots of NBPOGA and asks direction before making decisions that may or not change the NBPOGA mandates of working for the Industry and work for all and not a personal agenda. The position of NBPOGA has always been an honor to me and certainly appreciate the respect shown to me over the years as some was certainly challenging but with a great team supporting me we were able to overcome most obstacles.
It has been a pleasure over the years to meet so many great people and be invited to visit their Lodges and will never be forgotten. THANK-YOU very much and look forward to serving you till our AGM in March or first of April.
Respectively submitted

2022 NBPOGA NEWSLETTER

2021 PRESIDENTS REPORT
As 2020 came to an end it has been a very bad year for the Hunting and Fishing Industry. We have all suffered many hardships in trying to survive. Many have invested in upgrades to compete and try and capture new clients from New Brunswick and the Atlantic bubble. It is starting to look like 2021 is going to be a repeat of 2020.
It has been a very busy year for our Liaison Committee, BOD and myself in seeking relief and funding for the Industry. NBPOGA has been fortunate in being asked by Tourism and ERD to be the spokespeople for the Industry and have tried to reach out to all in the Industry that we could find contact information for and due to the privacy act many Lodges and Outfitters are left behind. We base our work on the Industry and not just our membership as the NBPOGA mandate calls for. We only had 2 that refused any updates from us and that is their wishes and will be honoured going forward. Regardless of what some says on social media NBPOGA has never ceased or will cease in the future in seeking relief and updating the Industry.
It has been a great pleasure in working with our Liaison Committee, Tourism and ERD on issues concerning the Industry. NBPOGA has many things on the go now on setting up meetings and discussions with Tourism. We always state that anyone with concerns or Questions to feel free to contact the Liaison Committee or myself and we will address this where possible. I personally thank the Committee chairs and Board of Directors for their dedication to working with our members.
We are pleased to see that our membership is rising quickly and appreciate those joining our cause in making the Hunting and Fishing Industry the great business to be in despite the hard times. As we are preparing for our AGM an invitation has been sent out for response as with the Pandemic has created many problems in scheduling meetings it was necessary to have you respond quickly so as the Committee could safely hold such a meeting with social distancing and the Hotel protocol on number of people that could attend. I look forward to meeting everyone there and Thank-You to those responding.
NBPOGA wishes to thank Amy Gallan on her dedication on ensuring our website is updated as news develops. As a volunteer Amy has done an excellent job on our behalf and deserves a huge THANKS, Thanks Amy on a job well done...It is up to our members to make sure ALL their contact information is sent to her to make sure you are correctly listed. Membership can be purchased on our website and YOU MUST send in the application to create your web space contact information. This is to be sent to Debbie Norton our Treasurer for processing, Thank-You Debbie for this Service. We also ask that you read our Constitution and Code of Ethics before applying for membership. Please check our website often as things change rapidly on qualifications on certain funding programs.
As President of NBPOGA I wish to thank our membership and BOD for their continuous support and enjoyed working for the Industry despite the many set backs so THANK-YOU for standing behind me and often in front of me. Stay safe and will see many of you at the AGM. As this will be the ELECTION for President and secretary and our Directors will be selected at this time to represent the Industry in the province along with committee chairs. Paul Leahey and JP Levesque will be doing the nominations and if you are offering for one of these positions please contact them. This is the time to nominate and select the people whom you feel will work hard on your behalf.

2020 President's Report:
As President of NBPOGA I am pleased to report to our growing strong membership. As we are growing very fast the past year I am very pleased with the many new members and some have been recruited to our BOD to better enhance our board with their knowledge and expertise in many fields to portray the Aims and objectives of NBPOGA.
We are having a BOD meeting February 21st at the Fredericton Motor Inn and our AGM will once again be held at the Moncton Sportsman show in Moncton. More information on the AGM will be announced as plans are still in the making so please plan on attending this great event to show your support and dedication on building NBPOGA to the great Association we have become.
Although not much information has been released I assure you our Chair people on our Committees have been very busy on your behalf meeting with Tourism, ERD and the SCI, Canadian Outfitters Association and the WLTF. Many items have been tabled on your behalf and we await some major decisions on the continuing discussions with the many Departments. I wish to sincerely thank JP, Debbie and Larry for representing us on these important Boards. Some may ask WHAT ARE WE DOING but as I have said many times that I will not supply any information on projects being discussed UNTIL confirmation is obtained that items have been sanctioned as a go ahead. I do not wish to give false hope on items but prefer to make an announcement of acknowledgement of success on our members’ behalf. We will speak more on these items at our BOD meeting to better update our Board.
I wish to thank Amy on jumping on board to manage our website and to keep it updated so everyone please bring ALL your information to the meeting or send updates or any information on your business so she can update your file and ensure all is correct.
Also Brian and Korey are putting together a project on the WHITETAIL and what needs to be done in their recovery and the many demises of this species. So put your thoughts together and bring some valuable information to the meetings to assist them in their quest with pictures etc.
I have recruited a new member Lisa Godin of North Shore Guide Service and Where Ya Wanna Be Outfitting in NFLD. Lisa brings many skills to the BOD and for now she has been asked to work closely with the BOD on the new species to be launching a hunting season this spring in NB. We are looking at launching a Turkey season this spring in NB and Lisa has a lot of knowledge on this species from hunting and promoting The CWTF so welcome aboard Lisa and looking forward to working with you on this project. As we all know a lot of work needs to be done before this happens with a short time to get things done and NBPOGA wants to be part of getting this done.
From sitting on the WLTF It is a continuing question on WHY not very many projects are being submitted for funding for hunting so please put your thoughts together on some meaningful projects to submit and manpower to carryout a project of value to NBPOGA and the Hunting and Fishing Industry. Hunting and Fishing are the largest contributors to the WLTF with the least returns so let’s get some of this money back to enhance the Industry.
In closing I hope everyone is looking at a busy year and remind everyone that at our AGM will be our election of officers and BOD so if you wish to offer for a position as either a Director or a member of the Executive you need to be there and our Executive require a nominator if you are new to this position. The positions now filled will be asked by the Nominating Committee and if yes then their names will be submitted and if not then the Nominating Committee will seek a name to offer before opening up the floor for nominations. This is the time to select the best people to represent you in the upcoming year. Please do not except a position for the title but for your dedication on building NBPOGA to its best going forward. Good luck to those offering and see you at our AGM and BOD on February 21st.It has been my pleasure in working with this board the past year and THANK-YOU for your support. REMEMBER the Executive work for the BOD and the Directors work for the province. Do your part and solicit new members.

2019 PRESIDENT'S REPORT
It is hard to believe another year has gone by so quickly. It has been a busy year and hopefully we start seeing some results with our new Minister that our Liaison Committee Chairman has achieved. Thank-you JP and Debbie on the hard work the two of you have accomplished. As always happens when you get a new Minister of Natural Resources many of our issues and concerns need to be re-addressed and JP and Debbie have done an excellent job on relaying this message. We have met 3 times with ERD in which we were encouraged to have had an hour plus with Minister Holland. Minister Holland being an avid hunter and angler will be devoting his time in promoting and supporting hunting and fishing in New Brunswick to the best interest to the residents, outfitters and guides and we await the approval of some or most of our recommendations. We realize some members think our Board has been idle the past year, but this is far from being accurate. The ERD LIAISON COMMITTEE “WAS” designated to be the spokesperson by NBPOGA to ERD and has done an excellent job in doing so. They have not leaked out any information on the meetings so as the saying goes “Loose Lips Sinks Ships” and have chosen the direction of keeping this information Secure and Private until the time comes to hopefully have the announcement made public by the Minister. IF all goes as it seems then most or ALL of our members will consider 2019 as a very important year for the Hunting and fishing Industry and your businesses. I have met with many Ministers over 20 years and this is the first time I am excited with the outcome of our meetings so far. As members of NBPOGA please remember that The ERD LIAISON COMMITTEE speaks on behalf of NBPOGA and please refrain when dealing with ERD on” YOUR” concerns to NOT put our hard work in jeopardy, all material or questions on behalf of NBPOGA needs to be approved by our Board and passed over to the Liaison Committee to deliver as we don’t wish to confuse ERD who speaks on behalf of NBPOGA. Kristin Moore along with Minister Holland it certainly looks like it will be a great year in our formation in getting results to better enhance the Hunting and Fishing Industry.
Our AGM will once again be held in Moncton in conjunction of the Sportsman show the same as last year along with a luncheon and guest speakers. This year we will be graced with MINISTER HOLLAND delivering the message to our members so please attend the luncheon and AGM. As this will be our AGM I will be preparing the AGENDA to post soon. As this is our AGM it is time for Members to submit any RESOLUTIONS to me at ([email protected]) to be reviewed and voted on at AGM. Time will be short for AGM so we will deal with the most important items first and those left will be addressed at a meeting in the latter part of April and date will be set for time and place at AGM. Hope to see you all there.
One very important item to mention is that we lost our Secretary (LOUIS LEGER) to our new Government as top official to the Premier and we wish to congratulate him on this new role but assure you all Louis is still there for us. CONGRATULATIONS Louis.
Hope to see everyone at the AGM and that we will be having a booth in the Outdoorsman show so any volunteers to assist are more than welcome. Once again your membership renewal can be done on our website and the luncheon meal tickets will be available on line.

2018 President's Report
It has been a busy year once again for NBPOGA. After a slow start we were able to finally able to succeed in getting meetings with ERD to discuss different issues on hunting and fishing in New Brunswick.
Many of our issues discussed have been of concerns of NBPOGA for many years and often being ignored but with continuous effort some issues were finally addressed.
We have dealt with different governments and many Ministers over the years and seems as we start to make some headway the government either changes or Ministers are changed and we have to start over. We still deal with the same beaurocrats so I have realized this is where we need to concentrate our efforts to move forward.
NBPOGA has achieved many issues over our existence and strive to to do more to protect the Industry and stakeholders in the future. NBPOGA has some of the greatest Chair people on board that work very hard on your behalf and deserve much credit for their dedication and hard work.
Once again we are pleased to announce that show funding has once again been awarded and applications will soon be reviewed.
We have held meetings with ERD on Bear Allocations and the Liaison to ERD has met and we await decisions on recommendations submitted to better enhance the Industry and stake holders in a prosperous future.
I am pleased to announce that our 2018 AGM will be held in Moncton this year in conjunction with the Outdoorsman show this year.
We will also be hosting a Luncheon immediately following the AGM and still putting together a guest speakers list to address members and guests.
We also will be putting a booth in to answer any questions on the Hunting and Fishing Industry in NB and solicit new members both Outfitters and Guides giving them an official voice in the Industry and to have access to our great Insurance exclusive to our members at a reduced rate with many seeing at least 4-5 hundred dollar savings. We also provide a space for our members to advertise their business at different levels.
Hopefully a great turnout will attend our AGM.
As this is our AGM “ALL” positions of the Executive and Directors will be elected to represent you for the following year so if interested in offering for a position please attend and have a nominator in place.
Also you can contact Paul Leahey the nominating committee chair with your suggestions or intents.
Hope to see you at the Moncton Outdoors Show

We are very fortunate to have Louis Leger elected as Secretary of NBPOGA, he brings many things to the table and one of his tasks is reworking and improving our website which was out dated and needed refreshing.
It is going to be very user friendly and many new features will be added to benefit our growing membership list.Welcome aboard Louis. Also a new director was elected to our board, Amy Gallan whom brings many new ideas to our board.Welcome aboard Amy and look forward to you being on the board of Directors.
I also wish to thank our past President Paul Leahey on serving as our President last year,Thanks Paul. Also congratulations to the other executives and directors for maintaining your positions with the board and look forward to working closely with you all once again to ensure the future of Hunting and Fishing in the province and working closely with Government and other user groups to safe guard the privilege of hunting and fishing in the province of New Brunswick.
As the year for hunting seasons is soon to begin I wish you all a prosperous and successful year. Also to the chair people of our many committees you also are to be congratulated on your hard work in the past and now our future, you have served the Industry very well.
As we go forward it is vital to our board that our members voice their concerns to us to better serve you, this is our duty to you. We still encourage non members to look us over and speak to us on your concerns and possible membership and as the only organization in the province we encourage guides to become members to voice their concerns as well.We have seats on our board for guides to fill and represent the guides of New Brunswick. The Industry looks strong and many lodges are filling up for a busy year and as shows are coming to an end I hope you all did well.
Back to the website many new items will be developed and added as quick as possible. One new feature is existing members can now pay their dues on line and new members after joining will enjoy the same benefit when renewing. Also a new type of membership is offered for those seeking extra coverage for their business over and above existing benefits. Also members get to purchase insurance at a members only premium that many have saved hundreds of dollars for great coverage. This is only available to our members.
